Hello all,

This morning I decided to head over to the Bureau of Labor Statistics to take a quick look at their projections for the fastest growing professions in the United States. Without much surprise to anyone, physical therapists and physical therapy assistants are still holding strong in this list. According to the statistics, which measured projected job market growth between 2006 and 2016, the number of physical therapists employed in the US will grow by 27.1%. Physical therapy assistants will see similar (and slightly larger) growth at a 32.4% projected increase.

Over the next 5 to 10 years, it looks as though demand is going to keep climbing for physical and occupational therapy. One of the many reasons agencies are becoming so prevalent in this market is because of this growth. My advice: take advantage of your occupation’s ‘rock star’ status and work hard to find a position and company that works for you. Be very careful while you’re searching, the increase in therapy needs has also brought about a lot of small companies that are looking to make money on a market they don’t understand. When looking for a company to represent you, be sure you know that your company knows the market and this industry.

Call me if you have questions or are on the fence about travel, I’ll help you understand the benefits and how we can help!

Until next time, safe travels.

In the traveling healthcare industry, it is important to master your telephone interview skills. Sometimes, you will only be given a brief overview of a position, and will be asked to discuss your experience, and how your background will fit into the current needs of the facility. However, there are times when the interviewee will want to delve a bit deeper. In any case, here are some helpful tips:

Introduce yourself, and engage in a small amount of small talk. Show them your personality.

Speak clearly! Make sure you are in a quiet spot, without background noise.

Remember to show enthusiasm in your voice- you can hear a smile over the phone!

Get rid of distractions. If you are in front of a computer- don’t type or check your e-mail. Stay focused on the task at hand.

Remember, your primary goal during an interview is to prove that you are the best person for the job!

This blog goes out to not only physical, occupational, and speech therapists but to all medical professionals who want to make a difference!

With all of the worldly disasters: hurricanes, tornados, typhoons, etc. We need to reach out and help people if we are capable because medical professionals are equipped mentally and physically. They deal with sickness everyday and work to treat people day in and day out. All of you medical professionals have a gift, and I think it might be time you reach out to people and use that gift.

I am very passionate about Mission Trips. I have experienced many first hand, and know what a difference it makes in your own life and in the lives of those you reach out to help. I have attached a website below for the Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapists that work with Cirrus Allied to check out! If you have a loved one who is not in the medical field but wants to go with you, take them too! Take a week off between travel assignments and go help others… wait until you see how much it helps in your own life too! Visit the website below and please respond if you’re interested! I would love to know your success story of a Mission Trip that you went on!

Today’s blog is about a new website I am pleased to be a part of. The site is www.healthcaretravelbook.com, a social networking site (much like Facebook) that is focused on traveling therapists, nurses, and other allied health professionals. Not only are clinicians chiming in on the website, but it also boasts a membership that includes client facilities, healthcare recruiters, agencies, and connects individuals from all areas of this business we are in.

Therapists can log on to rate their recruiter, rate facilities, join in forum discussions, and meet and greet with other travelers to discuss the traveling lifestyle. One of the best parts of the site would be the forums, where traveling therapists openly share information on their favorite assignments and locations. Sign up today to take a look around. I am a community advocate on the site and will be posting blogs on various topics throughout the year there. As always, happy travels!

Being a travel therapist, it can be hard to plan meals. As a healthcare recruiter I work with people in travel therapy jobs on making their assignments enjoyable, fun and memorable. Part of that is always having something good to eat. Something nourishing and healthy! Here at Cirrus, one of our account managers has a blog about vegetarian living. Here is one of my favorite recipes to share!! Enjoy and Happy Travels!!

This is perfect as a dip with tortilla chips, or served on veggie tacos. Oooo how I love avacado, mango, and tomato…

Ingredients:
1 mango – peeled, seeded and diced
1 avocado – peeled, pitted, and diced
4 medium tomatoes, diced
1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and minced
1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
1/4 cup chopped red onion
3 tablespoons olive oil

Directions:
In a medium bowl, combine the mango, avocado, tomatoes, jalapeno, cilantro, and garlic. Stir in the salt, lime juice, red onion, and olive oil. To blend the flavors, refrigerate for about 30 minutes before serving.

Traveling therapists take positions in a variety of locations for a variety of reasons. One common theme with a lot of traveling physical therapists and traveling occupational therapists is a love of the outdoors. I wanted to do a spotlight on a specific area for this blog entry to give you an idea of some of the great regions we work with here at Cirrus Allied.

Today’s post will focus on the Appalachian Mountains. Whether you’re in northern AL or GA, or eastern TN/Western NC, you will find a plethora of activities available for the outdoor adventurer.

Whitewater Rafting: In Western North Carolina, between the towns of Andrews and Bryson City lies the Nantahala River. This 8-mile stretch of class II-III whitewater is perfect for any beginner, while still being a fun day trip for a seasoned rafter or kayaker. If you feel your skills have graduated beyond the Nantahala, be sure to check out Copperhill, TN, just an hour from the Nantahala. Copperhill is home to the Ocoee River, a class III-IV whitewater rafting adventure, with two separate river sections totaling close to 10 miles of some of the best southeastern whitewater.

Mountain Biking: If staying dry is your thing, some of the best mountain bike trails in the south are found near the Ocoee and Nantahala Rivers. In NC, you can conquer Tsali, one of the best mountain bike trail systems in the country. Every year, thousands of mountain bikers head to this remote trail system outside of Asheville, NC for a great challenge. There is also an abundance of trails at the Ocoee Whitewater Center, a huge welcome center on the upper section of the Ocoee River.

Fishing: The region is great for fishing, while in north Georgia, be sure to check out the Toccoa River, voted by many to be some of the best trout fishing in the state. With its 8 miles of lazy river, you will be sure to land large rainbow, brown, and the occasional brook trout. The upper sections of the Nantahala River in Andrews, NC are also teeming with brown trout, boasting one of the state’s healthiest natural wildlife fisheries. Keep in mind before planning your trip: some of these streams have special regulations, check with the state’s department of natural resources before casting a line!

These are just a taste of the activities available in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Be sure to stay tuned for additional locations, activities, and campsites!
