The skeptics are coming out in full force against health care reform as the vote is due to take place tomorrow evening. Regardless of their political affiliation, traveling therapists should be aware that these changes will only increase job opportunity. We have already gotten a heads up from several clients telling us to expect a dramatic increase in the number of request we get for travelers. Many who love to travel have began to take permanent positions simply based on the fears of economic uncertainty. If you’ve been traveling and want to continue, you have nothing to fear. For more information on great travel assignments in cities you’ve been considering, call me at 678-993-2283.
Hello Travel Therapist!!!
My name is Angie Weck and I am an Operations Specialist at Cirrus Allied. I thought I would take some time today to tell you about my role at the company and what I do. There are many things that go on behind the scenes here at Cirrus Allied, that allow our travel therapist to find the best assignments in the industry today. I am a big part of that process.
It is my job to support our VP, Christian Sargent. Christian and I work closely together to track our team’s production. We report these numbers every week to our upper level management. I help prepare the numbers and the reports for these meetings. I also help Christian with his schedule and any administrative duties that he needs assistance with. I also assist the employees in our sales department. Our sales department consist of recruiters and account managers. Our recruiters work with our travel therapist and our account managers work with our clients to locate traveling therapy jobs. We are a JCAHO certified healthcare recruiting firm so there are many checks and balances that have to be completed; I assist our credentialing department with the daily duties of compliance schedules for JCAHO. I am also the one who gathers all the travel therapy evaluations from our client contacts once your assignment is complete. I am always the first to know how happy our clients are with our travel therapist.
I really enjoy my position of Ops Specialist with Cirrus. I feel I have the best of both worlds. I get the benefits of working in a healthcare recruiting firm and I have to say there is never a boring day when you are support to a VP and a large sales department.
Thank you to all our Cirrus travelers for your dedication and hard work. I will continue to do my best in the background so that we can find you the most desirable assignments and bring you the best quality in the travel therapy industry!!
Enjoy your travels!!
Did you know that this is the only time in history that there have been five generations in the workplace at the same time? There is my generation, the X’ers, then the baby boomers (the largest generation to date), the matures and the new generation Y. Recently I learned that the average age of our Travel Therapists is 36 years old. I was so surprised to know that you guys are in my generation!! Go X’ers!!!
Here are some fun interesting facts about our Travel Therapist Generation Xer’s:
The X’ers Fun Facts:
• Individuals considered to be within Generation X were born, and grew up during the later years of, and in the decade following the Vietnam War.
• We were shaped by the end of the cold war and the fall of the Berlin Wall.
• We grew up in a historical time we saw the inception of the home computer, video games (remember Atari!!) and the internet as a tool for social and commercial purposes.
• Remember MTV, Desert Storm and 80’s ROCK such as Van Halen and Bon Jovi?
• Maybe you were more interested in Hip Hop Culture and punk rock bands like The Ramones and Manga.
• The US Census Bureau cites Generation X as statistically holding the highest education levels when looking at age group.
What Motivates An X’er:
1. Value in the Individual and Nurture Relationships – Xers watched their parents work overtime to be layed off or downsized by major corporations. They are not loyal to companies. They want to be looked at as indiduvals. They are however homesick for the home they never had due to both parents working. Their focus on relationships over achievement is key.
2. Challenge in Work – We have short attention spans. We need and want new challenges and the opportunity to build new skills. Training is a big motivator for Xers. This is why healthcare travel is a great option for us! It provides constant challenge!!
3. Freedom to Manage Time – We do not like over your shoulder in your face management. As a result of being independent at a young age (latch key kids) we like freedom and autonomy in our work.
4. Feedback and Recognition – We like time with our bosses and leaders! This explains why many of our travelers are so close with their recruiters. Recruiters give feedback to the travel therapist and this is what the xer craves. Because of our short attention spans we have to get recognition and rewards quickly! The rewards in the healthcare travel industry never end!!
Happy Travels X’ers!
I got a call yesterday from one of our Traveling Physical Therapist. She was concerned about her hours being short during the Thanksgiving Holiday and because she is in Cirrus Allied housing she was deducted for housing also. After looking over her contract with her on the phone I realized that she is guaranteed 40 hours from the client. So as long as she is willing to work the full 40 hours she has to be paid upon that.
The Account Manager put in a request to the facility to see if in fact they were not allowing her enough hours to work the full 40 hour week. As it turned out our Physical Therapist was not given a full 40 hours to work so we paid her based on the 40 hours guaranteed.
Having these guaranteed hours is a good thing to keep your pay steady but also if you are in housing. If in housing, once you fall below 40 hours a week in hours, payroll deducts $10.50 for every hour short. Because we were able to guarantee 40 hours our traveler is going to receive a reimbursement for an additional 8 hours of work and $84 for housing reimbursement.
Moral of the story, be sure to get a guaranteed 40 hours of work on your assignment.

TGIF!!!
I was doing some research this morning to get more in tune with what the national opinion is on Allied Travel Trends. I came across an interesting article from healthcaretraveler.com that goes into further depth on the issues and concerns that are shaping the future of 6 allied health disciplines. I think it is fascinating what they have to say about physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech language pathologists. So if you are in the field and curious what others are saying about your field of work, or if you are thinking about starting a career in Allied Health, you need to check out this article by Olivia J. Cirrus Allied
Thanksgiving is next week and i know many of our Traveling Therapist in our housing are wondering about housing deductions due to the Holiday. No need to worry, just ask your manager if there is some time over the weekend when you can make up the hours. Remember you can make up these hours however you like, just be sure your supervising manager approves before hand.

With the holidays approaching I thought I would dedicate a blog to my traveling therapists out there to share your holiday traditions, your plans for this thanksgiving, and what your doing for Christmas. Are you currently on a travel assignment now? Do you have to work for during the holidays? Are you waiting to take your next travel assignment until after the holidays? Is your family big into traditions? If so, what traditions does your family keep? I’m excited to hear your responses to this blog, maybe even some of us will find a new tradition that we’ll use with our families from what you share.
