All travel companies are the same. I can say that. I am a recruiter with a major travel therapy company and I can say that we’re all the same. We all offer PT, OT and SLPs 13 week travel jobs across the U.S. We all offer benefits. We all have housing coordinators for your housing needs and credentialing coordinators for those pesky credentialing problems. We all offer really good rates and referral bonuses. We’re all the same.

As a Senior Recruiter for Cirrus Allied, I can also tell you that we’re not all the same. I have had hundreds of PT, OT, and SLP travelers work on my headcount who know that we’re not all the same. I work for your best interest. The folks here at Cirrus work for you, the PT OT and SLP traveler’s best interest. Sure we get paid when you work for us (believe me, it’s not that much), but we have a group here who are interested in growing our business and to do that we need to keep the travel therapists we have and build our headcount of travelers who work for us by referral.

One way for you, the healthcare travel therapist, to know how much we care about our travelers is to talk to someone who works for us. Ask other travelers, what makes Cirrus Allied better than Jackson or MedTravelers or Delta or Core, etc… They’ll tell you we don’t try to fit you in our travel jobs, we fit you into your travel job ( the job that you want). Now if that job is not available, we’ll tell you. We won’t leave you hanging, waiting until the last-minute for your next assignment. We start our search well in advance of your next assignment. If we cannot find you a job and those other companies can, I say go with them. I’m absolutely ok with that. I will call you in a few weeks and get ready for the search for your next 13 week assignment.

Call me today so we can discuss your travel career and how Cirrus Allied is going to make it better than those others.

As always, Happy Travels!

I picked up this information from another recruiter, but it is important, so I thought I’d post it here (but all credit goes to Dawn Pugh). Here’s a link to her post, but the story is posted below.

http://www.dawnpugh.com/2009/11/16/car-scam-the-warning/

Car Scam: The Warning!!!

You may have already received a warning letter or email notification regarding this diabolical car scam. Please be vigilant and be aware of the dangers involved.

Warnings..!!!!

Just last weekend on Friday night we parked in a public
car park. As we drove away I noticed a sticker on the
rear window of the car. When I took it off (after I got home),
it was a receipt for petrol. Luckily my friend had told me not to
stop, as it could be someone waiting for me to get out of the
car. Then we received this email yesterday.

Source: Anonomous.

THE WARNING FROM POLICE
THIS APPLIES TO BOTH WOMEN AND MEN
BEWARE OF PAPER ON THE BACK WINDOW OF YOUR VEHICLE.
NEW WAY TO DO CAR-JACKINGS, AND CAR SCAM (NOT A JOKE).

Heads up everyone! Please keep this circulating. You walk
across the car park, unlock your car and get inside. You
start the engine and put it into Reverse.

When you look into the rear-view mirror to back out of your
space, you notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle
of the rear screen. So you stop, and jump out of your car to remove that paper (or whatever it is), because it is obstructing your view.
Then when you reach the back of your car, is when the car-jackers appear out of nowhere.
They jump in and take off. They practically run you over as they speed off.

And guess what, ladies? I bet your purse is still in the car.
So now the car-jacker has your car, your home address, your
money, and your keys. Your home and your whole identity are compromised!

BEWARE OF THIS NEW SCHEME THAT IS NOW BEING USED.

If you see a piece of paper stuck to the back window, lock your doors and just drive away.
Remove the paper later. And be thankful that you
read this e-mail. I hope you will forward this to friends and
family, especially to women.
A purse contains all kinds of personal information and identification documents, and you certainly do NOT want this to fall into the wrong hands.

Please tell all your friends.

(Thanks again to Dawn Pugh)

Happy Travels!

Travel Therapists really don’t need a shortcut to a job blog, travel healthcare contracts are plentiful, but I found some very helpful information that can speed the process for all job seekers…including Travel PTs OT and SLPs.

1) Be prepared! Always always always have a resume ready to email or fax at a moments notice. We work in a fast paced industry and if you hear about a travel assignment you want, be prepared with your Resume, reachable references, and all of your credentialing documents.

2) Have an idea of when and where you’d like to take a healthcare travel assignment. Sure I am an expert at what I do, but I’m not a mind reader. I can help you whittle down your choices and help you make decisions, but if you do not have an idea of when and where, we’re wasting time.

3) Make yourself available to interview during a couple of different times during the day…early-before work, lunchtime, and/or after hours. I know many therapist travelers who feel that this is their personal time, but c’mon, we’re trying to give you what you want…meet me halfway.

These three bits of advice will give you a much better chance of getting exactly what you want…or at least closer to what you want.

Not Really. Blogging is supposed to be a way for us as employees of Cirrus Allied to connect with you the PT, OT or SLP travel therapist. When I began blogging about a year ago, I hoped that it would allow for communication between me and those travel therapists out there who might be interested in the intricacies of the travel industry from a recruiters perspective. It hasn’t really worked out that way. I’ve had only one response to all of my blogs in 12+ months. Not really the return I was looking for.

I am looking at this as a challenge. Obviously, I am not writing interesting enough blogs to warrant a response. Over the course of the next few months I will be working and studying hard to make my blogs about the PT OT and SLP travel therapist jobs industry a lot more interesting and engaging. I may not always hit my mark, but I am hoping that if I can direct enough travel therapists to my blog (through twitter, Facebook etc…), I can elicit some response/feedback that can help me to improve my blog to help make a difference in my PT, OT and LSP travelers lives.

Yes I am asking a lot. But I do not want this blogging to be a one-way street.

I have a COTA Traveler who is considering a position I have available. This position is not exactly what this traveler asked for, but pretty close to area, setting, and compensation package. This traveler is having a hard time making a decision. He’s not even sure he wants to interview, even though the facility has been trying to reach him. He told me he is hoping for something “better”.

My response to him is to take the interview. Don’t completely rule out a Allied Travel Job simply because is does not match your wants 100%. The truth of the matter is that in the Healthcare Travel Industry you don’t always get exactly what you want. Take the interview, find out if this assignment is for you or not. You may find out that it is closer to what you want than you thought. Or you might find out that it is not even close to anything you want and your decision is an easy one. My point is that a travel therapist should never refuse an interview if this particular job is an option for you.

It seems to me that a lot of travel therapists I talk to are looking for stable contract positions. That sometimes seems like an oxymoron…stable contract. But we have found a terrific solution. Cirrus Allied is now placing Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech Language Pathologists in government facilities…VA Hospitals, DOD Medical Centers, and Indian Heath Services centers on long term contracts. The credentialing process may take a bit more work, but once you are credentialed, you never have to do it again. Also, a great benefit to working on a government run facility, you do not need to be licensed in that particular state, you only need to be licensed in a state. Meaning if you are only licensed in Florida, but want to be submit to our position in North Carolina, you do not need to go through the licensure procedure for NC.

Another great benefit to these government positions is the longevity. Most of these contracts are for a year and some extend to four and five years. Very few if any other contract position will give you that longevity.

For more information on Cirrus Allied’s Government positions, call me or any of our great recruiters here, today.

Hi Travel Therapists,

Let me tell you a story, as a healthcare recruiter I have had highs and lows. I make a pretty good living and I play as hard as I work. At one point in my career, I was offered a large sum of money to run a start-up operation for a recruiting company that was an IT recruiting company and they wanted to get into healthcare. I was thinking with dollar $ign$ in my eyes. I was doing pretty well, and lived a happy life, but thought how great it would be to make the kind of money they were offering me.

In taking this new role, I took on a lot more responsibility. I informed my owners of what I would need to make this company a success. They agreed…to a point. As I began to build this new company for them, they began slowly taking away the tools we had earlier agreed that I needed to succeed. It made my job harder and harder, but I strived to move forward. I worked day and night to build this into a strong company and the money seemed great…at first. My wife was wondering why I wasn’t coming home for dinner, I stopped going to the gym and I was suffering from sleep deprivation. These were sacrifices I felt were necessary for my greater good and I was willing to make them.

I began to build and place PT, OT, SLP and RN travelers throughout a major city in the South. My owners were happy and thought of more and more expansion. Again, my hours increased and my home life suffered, but still I worked harder.

On my six month anniversay of opening this new division of our company, we turn our first profit. My owners, while saying they were happy with our progress wanted much more. I was very happy and proud of myself and my staff, but knew deep down that something was missing.
