Unemployed Americans who are scientifically inclined may want to think about therapy. In a new study that names physical therapists in greatest demand in the U.S., physical therapist ranked in the Top 3 in 29 out of the 40 metropolitan areas included in the research conducted by simplyhired.com. The California based job-search Web site also named physical therapist assistant in the top 3 in 9 metropolitan areas. Demand for physical therapists is expected to grow 25% between 2006 and 2016, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The APTA reports that between 2002 and 2008, median income of physical therapists increased by 29%. According to 2008 data from the BLS, the mean annual salary for physical therapists is $74,000 and $46,300 for physical therapist assistants. Salaries look like they have nowhere to go but up. According to APTA research, 13% to 18% of physical therapy positions are open!

All of the stats are wonderful!
I am currently in my studies at a university that does not have physical therapy as a major choice. I recently have decided I want to be a physical therapist and IF possible be a part time personal trainer. I know with the salary potential, personal training would not be necessary.
